Mariska Hargitay and 'SVU' Members Celebrate Renewal - Cast Member Reveals Spoilers
Mariska Hargitay and her fellow "SVU" cast mates received a huge surprise at the "Law & Order: SVU" wrap party in New York – they learned they would all have another season with NBC and "SVU." It came as a huge relief to the cast and fans, and star Danny Pino offered a bit of a tease for what may be in store for the members of "SVU."
Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, and Richard Belzer were all seen at the Bowlmor Chelsea Piers after shooting the season finale, which will air on May 21. During the party, producer Warren Leight had some good news for the cast: negotiations were settled and the crew would be returning for season 16.
"It made it a special wrap party," Belzer told the New York Post.
Fans were nervous that their beloved series may be cancelled after negotiations stalled. They took to Twitter to express their desire to "RenewSVU" during every episode and never stopped believing that there was hope for "SVU" to be renewed for at least one more season.
Meanwhile, cast member Danny Pino decided to talk a little about the big revelation from this past Wednesday's episode and what may be in store for his character and the rest of the cast not only this season but beyond.
During the episode, viewers saw his character, Detective Amaro, walk out of colleague Amanda Rollins' bathroom in nothing but a towel. Pino said he was stunned at the office romance and never expected it to happen.
"I had no idea until we walked into the read-through," Pino told TVGuide. "Warren Leight, our showrunner, said, 'There have been some slight changes to the script.' I had read the script prior to the read-through, so I wasn't sure as to what he was referring to. A little bit of a rustle started in the room and I doubled back up the page. I started looking at the stage directions and saw that Rollins was not alone in her apartment … Needless to say, I was caught by surprise."
"It's not a regular run-of-the-mill, 9-to-5 job," he added. "It is a squad room full of inquisitive, instinctual detectives who have a nose for things being off. I think that is one of the things that I'm looking forward to in the coming episodes: to really find out whether it is ever revealed. The smallest slip-up could blow the whole roof off of it."
As for his character, he will play a huge part in the season finale, as he is in huge trouble with Internal Affairs (not for the first time).
"In the finale, Amaro stands to lose not only his family, but his career," Pino said. "And it could happen that quickly and that easily, and it's only his current friends and perhaps some very close friends from the past who he has to rely on to get him out of the situation."
"Law & Order: SVU" airs Wednesday nights on NBC.
