'Married at First Sight' Spoilers, Latest News: Renewed for Season 2, One Couple to Stay Married?
"Married at First Sight," the experimental reality series based on the Danish show of the same format, initially raised some doubts due to its unconventional premise. In the show, individuals are handpicked and matched by experts, and they marry their match upon meeting them on the very first time at the altar. For six weeks, they live together as a married couple and after that, they then decide if they stay together, or if they should divorce.
Though the show is controversial, there's no doubt that it was a hit as it was recently greenlit for a second season on FYI. In an interview with RealScreen, "Married at First Sight" creator Michael von Wurden shared why the show roots for its cast to stay together, and why people can learn something from it.
"You relate to the cast in a different way than you normally do on a reality show because you really want them to succeed," said von Wurden. "Everything you do is to try to help them find love and stay together as a couple."
"If you have a choice between two things, always pick the one you think will help them in a positive way … You want them to stay together in the end," he added.
Clearly, von Wurden is hoping for the best for the three couples, but who among them will actually stay together?
Among the three, it seems like Jason and Cortney have the best chance at making their marriage work. Cortney knows that Jason is scared to really show his vulnerable side because he's been hurt before, but she declared her love for him.
"If you're strong and you know who you are, you can get through anything," she said. "So Mr. James Nicholas Carrion, I love you. And I want you to make me Mrs. Carrion."
The season finale of "Married at First Sight" will air on Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. ET on FYI.
