Marvel News: Director Anthony Russo On Why Fans Won't Be Seeing Jessica Jones In An 'Avengers' Movie

Marvel Studios has been doing a great job expanding into television and Netflix with shows featuring such beloved characters as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and soon, Iron Fist. The introduction of these new characters have had fans clamoring to see their favorite small-screen heroes on the big screen, specifically in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's two-part "Avengers: Infinity War," which is scheduled for a 2018 release.

But fans are now being informed that they probably won't be seeing former superhero Jessica Jones or mysterious Luke Cage or crimefighting Daredevil in an "Avengers" movie anytime soon.

On a recent visit to Brazil for the country's Comic-Con, "Avengers: Infinity War" co-director Anthony Russo spoke to Brazilian fan site Super Interessante and explained (as translated by comicbookmovie.com) that casting Marvel's TV characters in Marvel films is a "complicated" thing. Russo said, "When we start to serialize the telling of stories it's difficult." He added: "You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit."

"Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others," Russo said. He went on: "Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it's more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel's most popular characters, as does Sony and others."

Summing the director's remarks up, it appears that there is a slim chance that the Avengers and Jessica Jones will be teaming up for the big screen. But fans can still hope, as the proposition isn't entirely impossible.

Marvel's Netflix shows operate outside the reach of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; thus, interactions between the small-screen and big-screen characters are not typically considered. However, Spider-Man is set to make his MCU debut soon and, given that he is a New York City-based superhero, there's a small possibility that he will be mentioned in one of the Netflix shows. Or vice versa.

All 13 "Jessica Jones" episodes premiered on Nov. 20 on Netflix.
