'Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite' Roster News: Superior Spider-Man Added to Game

Capcom has announced Superior Spider-Man for "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite," but he won't be traditionally added to the crossover fighting game — at least not at this time.

The costume for the character will be available only to those who purchase a high-definition (HD) digital copy of the Marvel movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which first hit the theaters back in July.

To make sure they get the Superior Spider-Man costume, "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite" players should buy the movie from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Movies and TV or the Xbox Marketplace Live before Oct. 24. They will then get a redeem code to unlock the costume. This code can be used until Nov. 30.

For now, Superior Spider-Man is only announced for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There is no word if he will be added to the PC version of the game too, but it is expected.

Capcom has announced that the costume will be released to "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite" as standalone downloadable content (DLC) for $3.99 although there is no word when.

For those who are not familiar with Superior Spider-Man, the character is the version of the wall-crawler whose body — and eventually his personal life — was taken over by his nemesis, Dr. Octopus, in his attempt to spare himself from a lonely death.

The baddie made serious modifications to the suit by adding the ominous-looking spider legs reminiscent to that of tentacles in his costume Dr. Octopus, which users will see in this promotional clip of the latest "Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite" character. He also added moe components he believes will make his crime-fighting efforts and overseeing the city more efficient.

Because of these alterations, add to the fact his greater intellect, as he likes to think, and the overall improvements as Spider-Man, Dr. Octopus dubbed himself the better version of the superhero — thus calling himself the Superior Spider-Man.

A release date for the character's official release as a DLC for "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" is yet to be announced.
