'Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite' Rumor: Game Was Supposed to Have Larger Roster as Small Budget for Its Development Revealed
"Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" could have easily had a much bigger roster at launch than what gamers got, per a brand-new report.
Comicbook.com writer Liam Robertson recently revealed via Heavy that the female Monster Hunter and Black Panther, who are part of the first batch of downloadable content (DLC) for the title, were completed way before the game's launch.
The two were all set to be included in "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite," but Capcom reportedly decided against doing so and opted to release them as DLCs.
The result of this is that players will have to pay $7.99 each for the characters. At least this is the case for Black Panther and Mega Man villain Sigma, who were recently featured in a gameplay trailer for the game.
Both characters will find their way to the crossover fighting game on Oct. 17. Thankfully, the admittedly steep price tag also gets players the premium costumes of the respective characters.
"Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" has been receiving flak from some gamers who feel like it dropped quality from the previous installments of the crossover games. This is based on how the character models and the art style look and overall production value in the game.
It could be because the developers did not have enough resources to do more. Robertson said that "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" was only allotted half the budget typically used on DLCs for "Street Fighter 5," which is why they did not have a lot to work with.
This is why a lot of the features from the earlier titles did not make it to "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite." Because to make the budget work, the artists were told to reuse pre-existing internal assets from the 2011 game "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" characters for the Capcom characters in the game and added new colors and shades and updated art.
