Marvel's 'Inhumans' Starts Off With Weak Ratings

Marvel's "Inhumans" seems to be off to a bad start. The series, which came as an offshoot of Marvel's partnership with the ABC network, debuted with ratings as soft as that of the premiere episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4.

According to reports, the series earned  a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo on its first hour but fell to 0.8 on its second one. The said figures were said to be the equivalent of around 3.94 million viewers on its first hour and 3.63 million viewers on its second. Overall, the performance ratings of its premiere episode were around the same as the numbers posted by "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4's premiere episode, which had around 3.44 million viewers but had a 1.1 rating in its 18-49 demographics.

It was noted that while having 3 million plus viewers was not that bad, it was far from ideal for a series premiere. ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." struggled to maintain 3 million live viewers in season 4, and it was foreshadowed by the viewership ratings of its premiere episode. By the looks of it, Marvel's "Inhumans" is following its footsteps.

Even before "Inhumans" premiered, it had already been plagued with negative reviews. For months, it was criticized for its design, lack of definite descriptions for the characters, and for the very concept of the Royal Family being relegated to the small screen. Despite the criticisms, many thought the high levels of negative reviews about it would give a major ratings boost to its TV premiere. Apparently, however, it did not turn out that way.

Speculations are rife that "Inhumans'" initial ratings already signaled its failure moving forward, since it was very typical for a Marvel series to see their numbers drop towards their finales. Recently, it was also reported that the show would no longer be renewed after its first season, but ABC has yet to comment on that.

Marvel's "Inhumans" airs Friday nights at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
