'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Release Date, News: Game Takes Open-World Exploration to New Heights

A lot of open-world titles boast a vast terrain in which players can immerse themselves and explore to their hearts' content. For BioWare's "Mass Effect: Andromeda," however, the openness of the playing field is taken to an incredibly new level as there are even more realms to get acquainted with — literally.

In the latest gameplay trailer for the title, exploration and discovery are the focus of discussion. In this teaser, players are shown that the worlds available are as many as the planets one can see through the main space ship, the Tempest. What's even more challenging is that each planet holds different quests and terrains, making each of them perfectly unique and interesting.

As such, every planet holds various environmental hazards which one will need to be prepared for. This is where the use of land transportation known as Nomads is extremely useful, which can be upgraded and customized to suit one's needs. Arriving on a given world presents various starting points, but ultimately it is up to the player to decide.

More than the environment itself, the player, who plays the role of the Pathfinder, will need to be in good terms with the local inhabitants and is not always easy. This is a crucial part of the game as it allows more flexibility in navigating through alien lands and ultimately, creating Outposts once the planet reaches 40 percent viability.

There are more layers to exploring that concerns both the environment and other living beings, and as the Pathfinder it is important to tackle all of them. Finding a new world to live in will be tough, but not impossible.

Aside from exploring the terrain, one must need to modify or craft weapons to ensure safety, and this is another layer of gameplay. With a lot to do in the world of Andromeda, players will be spending satisfying hours on the game.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" arrives on March 21, 2017.
