'Mass Effect: Annihilation' News: BioWare to Continue Game Franchise's Story Through an Upcoming Novel
"Mass Effect" developer BioWare confirmed the upcoming release of "Mass Effect: Annihilation" -- a novel that will continue telling the story of the video game franchise.
In a very brief statement, BioWare announced that fans of the franchise will be able to continue its story but in a novel form.
The developer promised fans will "discover the danger aboard the quarian ark" through the release of "Mass Effect: Annihilation," and it will be written by author Catherynne M. Valente, who is known for her works "Palimpsest," "The Orphan's Tales," "The Labyrinth," and more.
BioWare also confirmed that fans will have the answers they need concerning "Mass Effect: Andromeda's" abruptly ended plot in the game, as it called the novel an "official tie-in" that will tell "the journey of the Keelah Si'yah as it carries 20,000 drell, elcor, batarian, and quarian colonists to Andromeda."
While the continuing plot is still under wraps, BioWare also teased one of the conflicts the novel will tackle: "A pathogen is discovered aboard the ark after many drell are found dead in their cryo pods. As the pathogen jumps species, the ship's systems begin to fail, making it clear this is no accident."
The announcement of the "Mass Effect: Annihilation" novel came after BioWare confirmed they were no longer going to release any more game patches and story expansions for "Mass Effect: Andromeda."
In a statement released in August, the developer said: "Our last update, 1.10, was the final update for Mass Effect: Andromeda. There are no planned future patches for single-player or in-game story content."
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is one of the highly anticipated game releases in 2017 since it follows the massive success of the "Mass Effect" trilogy which had its final installment in 2012. Unfortunately, its market release was marked by underwhelming critics' and users' reviews mainly due to its animation flaws.
"Mass Effect: Annihilation" will be released on June 26, 2018 in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, fans in Australia can get the novel on Aug. 28 of the same year.
