'MasterChef' season 6 episode 18 spoilers and episode 17 recap: Only one girl remains standing
In a few weeks, America will have a new MasterChef as the top 4 have been named. At this point, it is anybody's game, but it does look like a guy will win it. In the next episode titled "Think Inside The Box," the official synopsis reads, the top 4 cooks pair off to make an appetizer and an entrée and then repeat it twice using the ingredients given by the judges. The winners advance to the top 3, but the losing teams will compete in the pressure test where they will have to recreate a chocolate multilayer cake.
In the promo for the episode, a blue team and a red team can be seen. It seems that Derrick and Stephen will be paired up again, while Nick and Claudia will be partners. This is interesting since fans know that two alpha males will most likely clash, but remember that they were paired up in the tag team challenge that got them a win. So, who will be leaving the MasterChef kitchen next? Stay tuned to find out.
The preceding episode began with an introduction of the top 5. The mystery box was different this time around since each contestant had one ingredient and staple pantry box. The ingredients were all different and the contestants had to make one dish with the ingredients. Nick got chocolate, while Katrina got a pear. Claudia got a tomato, while Stephen got a Portobello mushroom and Derrick got a block of blue cheese.
The three best dishes were Stephen who made mushrooms five ways, Derrick who made blue cheese pretzel bites, and Claudia who made a savory tomato napoleon. Claudia finally won a mystery box and was declared safe. She created a Mexican basket.
Three former winners of MasterChef paid a visit to the kitchen. Christine, Luca, and Courtney each brought a basket. Christine created an Asian basket, while Luca created an Italian basket, and Courtney created a high-end baking basket. Claudia got to choose which contestant got which basket.
Nick got her Mexican basket, while Katrina got Luca's Italian basket. Stephen got Christine's Asian basket, while Derrick got the high-end baking basket. Nick had the best dish, despite his lack of Mexican know-how, while Katrina and Derrick failed to deliver that landed them at the bottom 2. In the end, Katrina was eliminated but she got a huge consolation prize as she was offered by Gordon Ramsey to go to Paris and learn in one of his kitchens there. She predicted that Nick would win.
