Matt Damon News: Actor Talks Sexual Harassment and Gets Criticized by Minnie Driver
Recent reports have revealed that critically acclaimed actor Matt Damon has drawn rebuke and outrage after his interview with ABC was released. In the interview, Damon commented on the sexual abuse allegations that are permeating the Hollywood scene. Among those who criticized Damon is "Good Will Hunting" actress Minnie Driver, who previously dated him.
In the interview with ABC, Damon acknowledged the issues of sexual misconduct that has become rampant in Hollywood over the past few months. When asked about the behavior of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, Damon said that if people were to look at Weinstein, it would instantly be apparent that he was a womanizer and that he would not want him to be married to anyone he knew and cared about. Damon further expressed that although sexual misconduct and harassment should be "eradicated without question," they should not be conflated.
A few hours after the interview was released, Driver, along with some of the fans who were aware of the interview, expressed her outrage at Damon's comments. Particularly, Damon was criticized over his comments wherein he revealed that although we live in a culture of injury and outrage, one must stop and acknowledge that nobody is perfect.
"I felt I desperately needed to say something. I've realized that most men, good men, the men that I love, there is a cut-off in their ability to understand. They simply cannot understand what abuse is like on a daily level," Driver told The Guardian. "I honestly think that until we get on the same page, you can't tell a woman about their abuse. A man cannot do that. No one can. It is so individual and so personal, it's galling when a powerful man steps up and starts dictating the terms, whether he intends it or not."
Fans have also expressed similar concerns over their respective social media accounts. Damon has yet to respond to comment on the criticisms he is still currently receiving.
