Matthew Perry News: Former 'Friends' Star Reveals He Can't Remember Several Years on the Show Because of Addictions
Former "Friends" star Matthew Perry admitted that some moments of the sitcom he used to be part of have evaded his memory, thanks to his substance addiction then. Entertainment Tonight (ET) reported that in Perry's interview with BBC Radio 2 in Britain recently, the actor was asked what his least favorite episode of the hit sitcom then was, and he replied:
"I think the answer is I don't remember three years of it… so none of those... somewhere between season three and six."
The interview with BBC did not really come as a shocker as the 46-year-old actor had been open about his addiction to alcohol and Vicodin and his struggles to snap out of his dependence on them. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August last year, the "Friends" actor candidly explained that getting sober was a difficult thing for him to do since his addiction had enslaved him for quite some time.
In 2013, after going into rehab twice, Perry turned his home in Malibu into a sober living facility and dubbed it as the "Perry House."
In June last year, the nonprofit drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility Phoenix House handed Perry an award dubbed as the 2015 Phoenix Rising Award. Referring to the award as "silly" and citing himself as an "award-winning alcoholic," Perry told The Hollywood Reporter: "I shouldn't be getting an award; Phoenix House should be getting an award."
Speaking of "Friends," the cast of the widely followed sitcom that ran for 10 years recently held a mini-reunion, sans the presence of Perry, as they gathered to pay homage to the legendary TV director James Burrows. According to Entertainment Tonight, Perry was not able to attend the event due to a conflict of schedules.
The actor is busy preparing for his upcoming stage play "The End of Longing," which he will not only act in but will also debut his playwriting skills. It will run at the Playhouse Theatre in London starting Feb. 2 to May 14.
