'Mayans MC' Air Date, Teaser, Cast News: Kurt Sutter Shares Production Photos of 'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff

Work begins on "Mayans MC," the spinoff to "Sons of Anarchy." Executive producer Kurt Sutter shares photos from the set production of the reworked pilot episode and fans are expectedly pleased.

Sutter posted the photos from the "Mayans MC" set on his Instagram after a week of filming. The writer and director captioned the photos as "Mayan pilot 2.0," which alluded to the reshoot.

It's no secret that Sutter wanted a do-over for "Mayans MC" after filming the original pilot episode in the summer because it left him unsatisfied. As part of a creative shift, Sutter stepped down as director and instead concentrated on making the story better.

He hire to direct the new pilot, which also dropped and added cast members. The production slowly came together following a complete rework.

Fans thought the reshoot spelled trouble for the "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff even before "Mayans MC" debuted on FX. Sutter, however, explained that the process was not out of the ordinary as he also did a reshoot of the "Sons of Anarchy" pilot episode years ago.

Followers of the show were appeased to see that "Mayans MC" is moving forward when Sutter shared the production photos. Fans expressed they cannot wait for the show to finally air.

"Mayans MC" will follow a biker group operating on the California/Mexico border following the death of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) in "Sons of Anarchy." It will center on a Mayans prospect/recruit EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) and the San Pedro Charter president Bishop Losa (Michael Irby). The show also stars Edward James Olmos, Raoul Trujillo, Emilio Rivera, Carla Baratta and Sarah Bolger.

"I'm really excited where we are in the process on Mayans," FX CEO John Landgraf expressed during the Television Critics Association press panel in August. "I'm very confident about the future of the spinoff."

FX plans on airing the show sometime in 2018.
