McDonald's Bag of Cash Given to Customers Instead of Breakfast, Couple Returns Thousands
A McDonald's bag of cash was given to two customers in Hermitage, Tenn. instead of the breakfast they ordered. Greg and Stacye Terry didn't realize what was in the bag at the time, and ended up driving home with thousands of dollars.
The McDonald's bag of cash was stuffed with thousands of dollars wrapped in plastic set to be deposited at the bank. An employee left it on the countertop, but another one snatched it up, thinking it was the Terrys' order— the couple was in for a big surprise once they reached their home.
"My husband opened the bag and discovered the money inside," Stacye Terry told NewsChannel5.com. "He said, 'You are not going to believe this.' Sure enough, it was their bank deposit money."
The McDonald's restaurant employee caught the mistake just a few minutes later and called the Terrys at their home to confirm. Once they did, the couple decided to bring it back to the store as it was only a few minutes away.
"The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was let's get in the truck and take it back," said Stacye Terry. "There is no other way to have it. I couldn't live with myself."
She did admit that it was a "fair amount of money" though. "I could have gone shopping," she joked.
The McDonald's didn't give the honest couple a reward, but they were very grateful for their integrity.
"We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing our error," McDonald's owner and operator Phil Gray said in statement. "We are looking into why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part of a community with the values that were evidenced by this person's actions."
The Terrys laughed about the incident and posted pictures of the money on Facebook.
"This will never happen again in our lifetime," said Greg Terry.
