'Mega Man Legacy Collection' PS4, Xbox One, PC gameplay review: Six games emulated remarkably, features Challenge Mode
Veteran gamers who particularly enjoyed playing "Mega Man" in the past can now bring back the fun with the "Mega Man Legacy Collection" brought to fans by Capcom and Digital Eclipse. The game starring the robot character is a collection of the first six 8-bit "Mega Man" games to PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It's been years since its first release but creators of the game are not yet ready to let go of the popular and iconic character. In fact, the six titles included in the collection were first released between 1987 and 1993 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The "Legacy Collection" will remind long-time fans and introduce newcomers to what the "Blue Bomber" is all about.
According to Forbes, the PS4 version of the games still remains to be a classic one without having too many changes since their outset. But even so, the entire experience is still deemed great in general. The source describes each of the six games as "emulated wonderfully", with responsive controls and navigation menu that is a breeze to go through. The graphics used are still 8-bit just like before but with HD modification to produce a much cleaner appearance. Aside from the six "Mega Man" games, the "Legacy Collection" features fresh ways to experience the classic games through the Museum Mode and new Challenge Mode.
The Museum Mode contains a collection of old artwork and a retro song player with several classic "Mega Man" tunes. The pieces are in high-resolution and are original concept pieces, a real treat for fans. The Challenge Mode serves up remixed levels from across the series and global leaderboards for fans to compete on the new levels. IGN verdicts the remix levels excellent as the player is faced with challenges like boss battles, thematic tests and previously-impossible ordeal of jumps.
"Mega Man Legacy Collection" is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $14.99 with physical and 3DS releases coming early next year.
