Update – August 16, 2016 – 11:00 p.m. ET: The winning numbers for Friday's Mega Millions jackpot are 2, 43, 52, 62, 63 and the megaball is 6. The Megaplier is 5x.
The Mega Millions jackpot prize for August 16, Tuesday is $52-million with a cash option of taking home $36-million.
There were no grand prize winners for the Mega Millions drawing last Aug. 12, Friday for the jackpot of $45-million which is why the prize pot has increased to $52-million. The winning numbers last drawing were 4, 41, 44, 56, 69 and the yellow ball was 10, while the Megaplier was 4x.

No one won the $45-million jackpot prize, but there was a ticket holder who matched all five white balls, according to the Mega Millions website. They won $1-million, but could have increased their winnings four times if they had opted to play for the Megaplier. There were 21 winners in total who matched the four white balls and the yellow ball. In those 21 winners, 20 received $5,000, while the last one opted for the Megaplier option and increased their winnings to $20,000.
According to MLive, the $1-million winner in last Friday's Mega Millions drawing bought the ticket in Ohio. It is currently unknown if the winner is a native of the state, a passerby or a tourist.
The Mega Millions drawing is done on a bi-weekly basis every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Winners are chosen by having five white balls drawn from a set of balls with numbers 1 to 75. A yellow ball is also chosen from a set with numbers 1 to 15.
How to Play Mega Millions
To play Mega Millions, players must submit 5 numbers for the white balls and 1 number for the yellow ball. Each ticket costs $1 and the Megaplier option, which multiplies potential winnings, costs an extra $1. Players can choose to play with the Megaplier option or not.
There are 9 ways to win. The chances of matching the five white balls and the yellow ball, or the jackpot prize, are 1 in 259 million. Meanwhile, the chances of matching just the five white balls are 1 in 19 million. The chances of winning any prize are 1 in 15. Mega Millions is played in 44 states in the US.
If you actually happen to win the jackpot, there are two ways to claim the prize. One is by Mega Millions annuity where the winner can claim their prize over the course of 29 payments after the first one. The second is the cash option, preferred by all, where the winner will be paid in a lump sum.
