The Mega Millions jackpot last Friday, August 5 was $30 million.
No one won the Mega Millions jackpot last week. The winning numbers for August 5 are 5, 18, 28, 54, 74. The gold Mega Millions ball is 6 and the Megaplier is 4. Since no one won, the August 9, Tuesday jackpot has risen to $38 million.

Mega Millions August 5 Winners, Recap
While nobody matched both the winning numbers and the golden Mega Millions ball, there were minor winners for last Friday. MLive reports that there were three winners that won $1 million each for matching all five white balls. The three tickets were purchased in New York, Georgia and California. None of the winners opted for the Megaplier option which made them miss their chance to increase their winnings by four times.
According to the Mega Millions website, there were 26 players that matched four white balls and the yellow ball. All 25 players won $5,000 and the last one opted for a Megaplier and increased their winnings four times and winning a total $20,000 in process. There were 286 Mega Millions ticket holders that matched four white balls. There were 35 who played the Megaplier option and won $2,000 while the rest won $500.
How to Play Mega Millions
To play, players must submit 5 different numbers for the white balls ranging from 1 to 75 and a number ranging from 1 to 15 for the gold or Mega ball. The jackpot is won when all the white balls and the Mega ball was matched by the player in the upcoming drawing. Each Mega Millions ticket cost $1. Winnings may also be multiplied by the Megaplier. Entering this option is another extra $1.
Mega Millions is available in 44 states in the US including the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. It is played every Tuesday and Friday weekly. The next drawing will be on Aug. 9, 2016 and the Mega Millions jackpot prize will be $38 million with a cash out option of $26 million. The winning numbers for Tuesday will be drawn at 11PM ET.
