According to CNN, the $540 million ticket was bought at a Speedway gas and convenience store in one of Indiana's highways. No one has come forward to claim the prize yet. According to experts and the Mega Millions officials, winner should consult a team of financial experts before getting the prize money. Additionally, they should also avoid having their names published if their states allow it. The winner only has until 180 days from July 8 to claim their $540 million Mega Millions jackpot prize.
The $540 million jackpot money is said to be one of the highest this year and is the seventh overall highest prize in the US lottery history. It is the biggest since August 2013 Powerball prize of $448.4 million. ABC News reported that Friday was the 35th drawing and longest recorded stretch before anyone won the Mega Millions jackpot.
How to Play
To play in the Mega Millions lottery, bettors will need to come up with five combinations and another one for the powerball. According to the official website, the first five numbers are chosen by drawing balls labeled 1 - 75 and then another will be chosen for the yellow or Power ball.
You are considered a winner if your ticket matches the numbers that are chosen on that particular date. Mega Millions winners can win 9 ways from up to $1 to the grand jackpot prize. If there are no winners for the jackpot prizes, it will be pooled to the next drawing.
For July 12, 2016, Tuesday's drawing; the jackpot prize is estimated to be $15 million. The results will be known 11PM EST.
