According to the official website, the lucky winner who matched all five white balls and the gold ball hails from Texas. The total prize winning was at $49,000,000. There were also three people who matched all the five white balls. The winners hail from Colorado, Virginia, and Washington and have each won a total of $1,000,000. Had they opted for the Megaplier option, they would have doubled their prize.

The official Mega Millions website has also stated that there were 17 people who won the next prize. They have successfully matched four white balls and the gold ball. They each got $5000 in prize. There were also 2 people who played the Megaplier and won $10,000 in total winnings.

Winning in Mega Millions

There are nine possible ways to win in Mega Millions. The total prize depends on the number of matched Mega Millions winning digits, as well as if the Megaplier option was utilized.

There are six more prize tiers aside from the jackpot and the two non-jackpot tiers mentioned above. A $500 prize would be given to those who matched four white balls. The next tier gives $50 to all those who matched three white balls and the gold Mega Ball.

There is a $5 prize for those who match either three white balls or two white balls and the gold Mega Ball. $2 is then given to those who could match one white ball, along with the gold Mega Ball. The lowest tier gives a dollar for simply matching the gold Mega Ball. Do note, however, that all prizes (except the jackpot prize) could be multiplied by the value of the Megaplier, which in the last draw was set to 2.

How to Play Mega Millions

Each Mega Millions ticket costs $1, with an additional dollar for the Megaplier bonus. Players must then supply a total of six numbers. The first five numbers, ranging from 1 to 75, correspond to the white balls. The last gold Mega Ball is then limited from 1 to 15.

The Mega Millions lottery is playable through 44 US States. There are two drawings per week, every Tuesdays and Fridays, at 11PM.
