Mega Millions Jackpot Drawing Sep. 16 Recap
The winning Mega Millions ticket for Sep. 16, Friday was apparently sold at a Tuscola gas station in Illinois, according to the official Mega Millions website. The establishment that sold the ticket will reportedly receive a $500,000 reward. The winner has not stepped forward but it is recommended by lottery officials for winners to sign the back of their ticket and keep it safe to claim their winnings.
In the last Mega Millions drawing, there were two non-jackpot winners that matched all five white balls. They both each won $1 million. They would have tripled their prizes to $3 million had they opted for the Megaplier option in addition to their ticket. The tickets were reportedly sold in Virginia and California, MLive.com noted.
Now that the Mega Millions grand prize was won, the jackpot prize will automatically restart to $15 million. The Mega Millions lottery is played weekly every Tuesday and Friday and the numbers are drawn at 11PM EST.
How to Play Mega Millions
One Mega Millions ticket costs $1 and the added Megaplier option costs $1 more. To play the lottery, players must pick six numbers total - five to represent the white balls and one to represent the yellow ball that will be picked during the drawing.
Five white balls will be drawn from a pool of numbers numbered 1 to 75 and one yellow ball will be picked from a pool of numbers numbered 1 to 15 in a Mega Millions drawing.
How to Win in Mega Millions
There are nine ways to win in a Mega Millions drawing including the jackpot. The biggest non-jackpot prize is $1 million which can be multiplied via the Megaplier option by 2 to five times.
