Recap of Friday, Sept. 2 Mega Millions drawing
The winning numbers for Friday's Mega Millions jackpot were 1, 5, 8, 25, and 62. The megaball was 14, while the Megaplier was 3x. No one successfully matched all six drawn numbers, which would have earned them $20 million. Two lucky players, however, were able to match all five white balls for the $1 million. They didn't play the Megaplier option, which would have tripled their earnings to $3 million. The winning tickets were bought from Florida and Pennysylvania, according to the Mega Millions website.
Meanwhile, 40 lucky players were able to match four white balls plus the Megaball for the $1,000 prize. Seven of them played the Megaplier option, which brought their total winnings home to $15,000. Nearly five hundred players matched four white balls for $500, while 82 of them played the Megaplier for $1,500.
Nearly 1,800 players matched three white balls and the Megaball for $50, while more than 29,300 matched three white balls for $5. About 840,000 lucky players were able to win $2 and $1 prizes by matching a white ball and/or the Mega ball, respectively.
How to play the Mega Millions
For aspiring millionaires, playing the Mega Millions is one way to do it. Players win the jackpot prize by matching all five white balls, which are drawn from numbers one to 75, and the Mega ball, which is drawn from one to 15. The odds of winning the grand prize are one in more than 298 million, according to the Mega Millions website.
There are nine ways to win a prize, and the odds of doing so are one in 15. They can win by matching all five white balls and the white ball for the grand prize, all five white balls for the $1 million, or even just matching the Mega ball for $1. The game will reset itself back to $15 million if someone wins the jackpot, and will continue to grow every lottery draw until someone wins again.
Mega Million tickets cost $1, while the Megaplier option, which multiplies your winnings by two to five, is an additional $1. It's currently played in 42 localities, including the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
