How to Play Mega Millions

U.S. residents who want a shot at winning a hefty amount can simply buy a Mega Millions lottery ticket for $1 for every play. Game mechanics state that players should pick six numbers -- five from numbers 1 to 75 and another number from 1 to 15. Players can also choose the electronically generated Easy Pick.

A winner is determined if a bettor gets all six winning numbers. Mega Millions' jackpot prize begins at $15 million then increases by $5 million every draw when there are no lucky winners. It can be played in 44 states in the country including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington D.C.

Staten Island Resident Wins $169M

Do not waste your chances as you could be as lucky as Staten Island homemaker Nancy Viola. Mega Millions revealed that the New York player recently claimed her $169 million winning for the draw last January 8 where she was the sole winner. She shared that it was her husband who bought the Quick Pick ticket at the Beaver Street Customer Service Center.

After claiming the lump sum amount of $64,796,160 last March 10, Viola was at a loss for words noting that she still could not believe that she won millions during the Mega Millions draw.

"It's surreal, but exciting and wonderful at the same time," she told Mega Millions. "I've thought about my plans, and I want to make some investments and just be secure for the future."
