Meghan Markle Gets New Security Detail From NBC Bosses
Meghan Markle's round-the-clock team of bodyguards recently got an upgrade, which is believed to be paid for by her "Suits" bosses.
Rumor has it that NBC Universal hired a private security team for Markle. According to reports, the actress was given her own security team that will monitor her home in Toronto. NBC also funded the installation of additional security features to Markle's house, including multiple CCTV cameras to ensure the 36-year-old's safety.
The detail was engaged due to Markle's growing profile as the young royal's girlfriend. It was fueled this week when she attended the Invictus Games, an event created by Harry's advisors. It is unclear if there is a threat on Markle's safety, but the social media attacks she has been receiving lately may be the reason why she received added security.
Markle and Harry's presence at the Invictus Games marked their first public appearance as a couple. Now that they are officially "out," many believe an engagement will be announced soon, especially after Markle's candid interview about their "great love story" during a Vanity Fair interview earlier this month.
"I'm pretty certain that cover story was done with the knowledge if not the blessing of Kensington Palace, maybe in coordination with Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, too," acclaimed royal family biographer Sally Bedell Smith told USA Today.
She added, "That's a pretty strong likelihood it could be a prelude to something serious, based on the tenor of what she said."
Daily Mail notes that if the couple becomes engaged and Markle stays in Toronto, her security would be taken over by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. If she were to move in the United Kingdom after getting engaged, it's possible that she would receive the same treatment given to Kate Middleton. She was given Scotland Yard royal protection officers after her engagement to Prince William in 2010.
