Mercedes-AMG GT Concept Release Date, Specs News: Four-Door Sports Car Teased Ahead of Geneva Motor Show Debut
Daimler AG has released a teaser image for the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The concept vehicle serves to preview the automaker's upcoming four-door sports car.
Mercedes-AMG has yet to reveal details about the GT Concept but based on the sneak peek provided by the promotional image, the sports car will be equipped with aggressive design elements, as evidenced by the pronounced alloy wheels with red accents, the high-performance exhaust system and the sculpted rear. It also has a sleek, coupe-like silhouette and slim taillamps.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept also appears to incorporate futuristic elements, as hinted by the absence of exterior side mirrors and door handles. It is possible that the concept sports car will be equipped with a 360-degree camera system that will provide the driver with a comprehensive view of his or her surroundings.

According to AutoCar, the GT Concept will be powered by the latest version of AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine said to be capable of delivering up to 600 horsepower. The publication also mentioned that the powertrain might include an integrated starter generator (ISG), which delivers added performance and instantaneous start-up via a 20-horsepower electric motor.
The concept vehicle is expected to use a modified version of Mercedes-Benz's Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform. The automaker will also most likely use lightweight materials like aluminum and high-strength steel to reduce weight, which, in turn, will enhance the sports car's performance and handling.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept is one of the vehicles that the automaker is introducing to commemorate its high-performance division's 50th anniversary. Car enthusiasts are also highly anticipating the Mercedes-AMG Project One, a street legal hypercar that is powered by a Formula One engine.
Once the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car is released, it is expected to compete with the Porsche Panamera, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi RS7.
More details will be revealed during the annual trade show in Geneva, to be held at the Palexpo convention center from March 9 to 19.
