Miami Dolphins Quarterback Jay Cutler Sustains Multiple Cracked Ribs, Questionable for Thursday's Game

It appears that quarterback Jay Cutler may not be available when the Miami Dolphins take on the Baltimore Ravens this Thursday.

Dolphins head coach Adam Gase has confirmed that Cutler has suffered multiple cracked ribs after he was hit by linebacker Jordan Jenkins in the third quarter of their 31–28 victory over the New York Jets last Sunday.

Gase did not offer a timetable for Cutler's return, but ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that he may miss two to three weeks of action while he recovers from the injury.

"We're kind of going through the process right now, so we'll figure out what we're going to do and transition and kind of work through today and figure it out at some point. We're just kind of taking it day to day right now and see where it goes from there," Gase stated on Monday, via the Dolphins' official website.

"It didn't matter, the way he got hit and the way he came down. He has custom-made pads. He had pretty good protection, but it just didn't matter. The force of the hit and the ground was a lot," Gase said when he was asked if Cutler would wear extra padding once he makes his return.

Cutler hasn't been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Ravens, but Gase did note that his chances of playing weren't very good.

Long-time backup quarterback Matt Moore should get his first start of the season if Cutler is unavailable on Thursday. Incidentally, Dolphins fans have been calling for Moore to replace Cutler for weeks now.

The veteran second-stringer played an instrumental role in their comeback win against the Jets last Sunday. The Dolphins were trailing 21–14 when he came in to replace Cutler in the third quarter and it didn't take long for him to make an impact in the game.
