Miami Dolphins Roster and Injury News 2015: DE Cameron Wake Out with an Achilles Injury
The Miami Dolphins did not only lose Thursday's game against New England Patriots but they also lost defensive end Cameron Wake due to an Achilles injury, who did not return to the game. The Dolphins were blown out 36-7 by the Patriots, and losing Wake for the remainder of the year is a huge blow for a team that has seen some rebirth in the past couple of games.
The news about the injury was first reported by Armando Salguero for the Miami Herald.
Coach Dan Campbell couldn't hide his concern should the team miss Wake for the rest of the season. He said, "I would feel horrible, and I know his teammates would, too, if that's the case. ... If you lost a guy like Cam, it would hurt. Not only is he a leader, but he's a very productive player."
When Miami parted ways with Joe Philbin, the team saw substantial progress largely because Wake came in healthier and with better performances. As a matter of fact, he was one of the most improved defensive players for Weeks 6-7.
Currently at 3-4, the Dolphins will have to rely on their remaining healthy players to make a push going deeper into the season. But there's no denying the kind of impact Wake has on the team, which means his absence will be felt. Producing 70 sacks so far in a seven-year pro career, he has been part of the Pro Bowl for the past three seasons. Expected to replace Wake are Terrence Fede and Derrick Shelby, but Olivier Vernon will still be manning the other defensive end position.
Wake's injury is a cause for alarm, especially when everyone saw him being carted to the locker room. The injury happened in the closing minutes of the third when he already had a sack and a couple of tackles. After the game, the former Penn State University star was seen in crutches.
