Miami Dolphins Roster, Injury News 2017: Quarterback Jay Cutler to Play Against the Raiders Next Sunday
Miami Dolphins fans finally got their wish last Thursday when veteran quarterback Matt Moore was inserted into the starting lineup while Jay Cutler sat out the game against the Baltimore Ravens with multiple fractured ribs.
Moore did really well in their 31–28 victory over the New York Jets on Oct. 22, but things didn't go exactly as planned this time.
The Dolphins got off to a slow start and they never recovered. Moore completed just 25 of 44 passes for 176 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the game. To make matters worse, both interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
By the end of the 40–0 shutout loss, the same fans who were calling for Moore to get the permanent starting quarterback job probably couldn't wait for Cutler to make his return to the field.
Well, Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was the bearer of good news this time as he confirmed that Cutler's going to be available when they take on the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Nov. 5. He also noted that the veteran quarterback could have played last Thursday, but they decided to hold him back to give him more time to recover from his injury.
"I know Monday he ran with the team and he threw. He felt pretty good. I wasn't going to put him out there tonight. I just didn't think it was the smart thing to do. I know he's tough but I didn't want to put him in a bad situation where he could get hurt worse," Gase said after the game last Thursday, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Cutler should get the start against the Raiders. There's no question about that. But fans shouldn't place all the blame for the loss squarely on Moore's shoulder. He didn't play well, but he's still a solid backup who has been with the team since the 2011 season.
