Miami Heat Not in a Hurry to Release Chris Bosh

Many observers believed that it was only a matter of time before the Miami Heat decides to waive forward Chris Bosh. They could have opened up a roster space if they release him right now and sign a free agent who could help them fight for the final playoff spot. However, they were not going to do that.

According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the Heat will hold on to Bosh this season because they still have plans to trade him.

"Miami want to keep alive the not-very-likely possibility of being able to trade Bosh (after the season) to a team that might want to trade something Miami wants or a team that believes he could play or (as was the case before last month's trade deadline) a team that needed to get to the cap floor. There were preliminary trade inquiries earlier this season," Jackson said in his report.

Bosh has been sidelined the entire season because of his blood-clot condition and many believe that it may force him to retire. But the All-Star forward has other plans and it seems he wants to keep on playing.

"My health is great. I'm feeling good, still working out and just really still staying ready," he said in Turner Sports' "Players Only" broadcast, according to NBA.com.

He also revealed that his children were also pressuring him to make a comeback. Well, everybody wants to see him step on the court again, but he has to get a full medical clearance to return. Bosh made his comments days after he met with the Heat's medical staff.

Meanwhile, many pundits believe that the Heat will still try to release him before the end of the season. Jackson also noted that the Heat are confident that a doctor jointly selected by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the players association will rule that his present condition is career-threatening. If that happens, Bosh's salary for the next two seasons will be removed from the Heat's salary cap.
