Miami Heat News: Heat sign young players to fill in roster spot.

At the moment, the Heat only have one more spot left open.

With the NBA training camp just ahead of every team's calendar, the Miami Heat are slowly building and completing their roster.

The league allows up to 20 players in the roster to make the training camp squad, before eventually trimming it down to 15 that may play in the regular season.

Players like Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside are guaranteed spots in the team, leaving the rest to fight for their place in the limited roster space.

Meanwhile, rookie Justise Winslow may start from the bench but is undoubtedly a player the team will rely on this coming season.

Recently, it was announced that undrafted rookie Greg Whittington was given a contract by the Heat to be part of the training camp.

According to Shams Charania of RealGM, the deal is for one year and is non-guaranteed – however, it will give a chance for Whittington to show that he belongs to a team and may fight for his spot in Miami.

Whittington played for the Heat in the summer league, eventually impressing a lot of people, especially team assistant coach Dan Craig.

"I think what's great about Greg is he has a good feel for the game. He has the versatility to be a playmaker. When the defense puts two men on the ball, we throw it back to him and we get him on the roll. He's a really skilled playmaker. He makes some high-IQ plays at that four position," Craig revealed.

In nine summer league games, he averaged 9.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals. He also started six of those games for the Heat.

For their second signing, the Heat added Briante Weber of Virginia Commonwealth – leaving only one spot remaining for the team to fill.

Weber was a former Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year but suffered a major knee injury that cut his senior year short.

The guard was still highly touted and had multiple teams looking at him such as the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz.

Weber will fight for the 15 spots in the Heat and if he does not make it, he can look for a team that will sign him or he can move to the Heat's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

The same goes with Whittington.

There are more storylines to unfold and look out for the last signing the Heat will make ahead of training camp.
