Both teams are doing relatively well in their respective conferences as the Spurs are second in the West and only behind the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors.

If not for the Warriors' hot start, all eyes would be on the Spurs as they are well on their way to another league-topping performance and seems likely to lock up either of the top two positions in the West.
Combining youth and experience, the Spurs have the most versatile squad in the league as stars like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker may be in their 30s but still have enough game to battle against the top stars in the league.
Add young guns like Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and others who are young but are dependable players, then the Spurs always have players to fall back on when they need big plays or points.
As for the Heat, the same could be said but on a level lower than their West counterparts.
The Heat core is still being led by veterans like Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade who lead with championship experience and seem to have rekindled their fire as they are playing exceptionally well this year.
Young stars like Justise Winslow and Hassan Whiteside have also shown that they can carry the torch for the Heat moving forward and their future definitely looks bright.
This is only the first meeting between the two teams so a win for either should be big especially for the Heat who are playing at home.
After this, they are set to meet again in Texas for their final showdown of the regular season.
