Michelle Obama Continues Her Advocacy for Children While Remaining Chic
It's been months since the Obamas have left the White House, yet they have remained in the hearts and minds of those who have supported them and their advocacies since day one. As such, people have been wondering what they, and Michelle Obama in particular, have been doing.
Apparently, Michelle, being one of the most hands-on First Ladies in history, has been continuing with her started causes for children. If she's not the one directly influencing the movement of that cause, she continues to push and highlight everyone else who shares in that endeavor.
Just recently, Michelle tweeted in appreciation of Chance the Rapper's gesture of donating $1 million to Westcott Elementary School in Auburn-Gresham, saying, "Thanks @chancetherapper for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us so much. You are an example of the power of arts education."
According to International Business Times, Chance did this after Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed the $215 million that was supposed to go to the Chicago Public Schools who required a total of $721 million payment to its pension fund. This prompted the rapper to take matters into his hands by shelling out in order to help the kids.
On a more direct manner, the Obamas have also made a book deal with Penguin Random House, who has acquired world rights to the pieces of literature. What the publisher plans to do is in line with Michelle's advocacy, which is to ultimately help children.
As per New York Times, a million books will be donated to First Book, a nongovernment organization that gives books to children who need them, while the Obamas will be donating part of the profit to charity, including the Obama Foundation.
Despite the fact she still keeps busy and pretty much gets her hands dirty, she manages to remain stylish. Vogue has shared a photo of Michelle and the former president, all dressed up while visiting the National Gallery of Art.
It just goes to show that helping others never go out of style, both figuratively and literally.
