Michelle Shocked Cancellations: Venues Back Out of Concerts After Anti-Gay Slur (VIDEO)

A number of Michelle Shocked concerts have been cancelled as a result of accusations, which claim the singer made an anti-gay slur on stage.

"Having met you and talked with you at Bar Zemers it feels like something is missing in this story. Hate doesn't jive w/woman I met," one of Shocked's fans wrote on Twitter. The tweet echoes the comments of many fans who have come forward with the question of why the singer would chose to make a derogatory comment about homosexuals.

In a recent statement, Shocked has said that the truth will not be coming out just yet.

"I'm abiding, letting everyone's true colors show before I undertake a personal response to each & every tweet," Shock announced on Twitter after the incident. But she confirmed: "Am neither against a woman's right to choose nor gay marriage. Am a fundamentalist tho."

Shocked is accused of making negative comments about homosexuals during a Sunday night concert in San Francisco.

"When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back," Shocked told a crowd at Yoshi's, according to eyewitnesses who spoke with USA Today. "You can go on Twitter and say, 'Michelle Shocked says God hates f---.'"

Staff reacted to the comments by pulling the plug on the concert, and now venues where the singer was to give future performances have also cancelled.

SPACE general manager and talent buyer Jake Samuels was one of the first to cancel Shocked's concert. He stated that the singer's remarks were, "ugly in nature and not meant to be artistic or satirical in any way."

"It wasn't a very hard decision for us," he told The Chicago Tribune.

Other concert venues where Shocked planned to perform have also followed suit. At least nine other venues have cancelled so far including McCabes, where Shocked's next concert was scheduled on March 23. The other 21 venues she is scheduled for have not yet commented.
