Microsoft Confirmed Windows 10 Will Be Released on December for Windows 8.1 Phones
Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 to PC users last July, and now, Windows 8.1 smartphones will get a chance to use the latest Microsoft OS this December.
Last Oct. 6, Microsoft held an event to launch its new flagship phones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, as well as the new Surface Pro 4. The new Lumia 950 and 950 XL are said to be released with built-in Windows 10. However, loyal Microsoft users were let down when the company failed to announce when the new Windows operating system would be available on existing Windows phones.
Microsoft apparently realized the issue and answered what everyone has been asking, when they responded to a fan question on its Facebook page.
According to Know Your Mobile's report, a fan curiously asked on Microsoft Lumia's official Facebook account when the software company plans to release updates for Lumia phones like the Lumia 640 and 640 XL. Microsoft graciously replied that the Windows 10 update will start rolling out this December.
The Verge also reported that it is Microsoft's ambition to make the upgrade available to the majority of the Lumia devices. However, the company also announced that not all Lumia devices will be compatible with the new Windows 10 OS since the upgrade will take up 8 GB of internal storage memory. "Like any upgrade to a new operating system, not every phone will support all possible Windows 10 features. Certain features and experiences will require more advanced future hardware," Microsoft explained in its statement. Microsoft also added that the devices that are running on the Lumia Denim OS (version 8.1 or higher) are eligible for the new OS.
One of the known Windows 10 mobile updates will allow any Lumia handsets to access apps like Word and PowerPoint the same way they run on a PC, which will allow users to improve productivity even when they're not on a desktop.
Fans will just have to wait for the update to be rolled out at the end of the year.
