Microsoft Foldable Tablet Specs, Release Date: New Report Hints attached Windows ARM Device With Pen and Inking Features
Microsoft is reportedly working on a brand-new foldable tablet.
In the past few years, the tech giant has been developing tablets, but they did not make it out to the public. One of these is a folding tablet called the Courier.
This did not see the light of day either, but Microsoft is apparently working on one called the Andromeda, which is in the same vein as this device. The tablet, while double a smartphone size, will boast telephony capabilities. Its folded form allows it to be pocket-size.
The main attraction of the Microsoft Andromeda tablet will include pen and inking. According to Zac Bowden of Windows Central, there are prototypes that feature a notebook app connected to the OneNote.
The notebook app recreates the experience of writing on a real notebook as it includes virtual pages. It can run Windows apps like Edge or Photos. It is unknown at this time if the foldable tablet will come with a single foldable screen or two separate displays that meet face to face when the device is folded up.
The abovementioned publication adds that the Andromeda tablet will have ARM support, which means that it will come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor at the time of its release. It is still unclear if it will be able to run Win32 programs just yet.
Bowden explains that the Andromeda foldable tablet will not be made to compete with Android or iPhone:
Microsoft is going to try and carve out a new market for people who need or want a device like this. It isn't hard to imagine this device being marketed as a digital journal for those in the enterprise or in schools.
The Andromeda foldable tablet, while it is in the works, having it released is another story, with Bowden describing it as a "big if."
