Microsoft HoloLens V3 Headset Release Date News: Device Launching 2019 Instead? Roadmap Changes to Blame

It looks like the Microsoft HoloLens V3 headset will not see the light of day until the year 2019, if the latest reports about the device are anything to go by.

According to Brad Sams of Thurrott.com, the Redmond tech giant made some big changes in its roadmap for the mixed-reality headset, which was first introduced a couple of years ago.

Sams detailed how Microsoft had three versions planned for the HoloLens V3 headset — the first one already made available, but at a very high price.

The second one was expected to be smaller and easy on the pocket while the third version is all about major upgrades and improvements.

Thurrott.com notes that Microsoft has decided to completely skip the second phase and just go straight to the third one for the Microsoft HoloLens V3 headset.

"Why are they doing this? In the two years since the device was first announced, companies like Magic Leap have made big promises about their technology and how it will transform the world," Sams wrote.

"Today, you cannot buy a device made by Magic Leap nor have we even seen a retail device from any other company in this space. In short, Microsoft has a large lead in the AR space and isn't feeling pressure to release a product that is only an incremental update," he went on to say.

With the company going straight to step three in the production of the Microsoft HoloLens V3 headset, this should keep it at the forefront of the competition.

Additionally, releasing a second version would also mean that the third one will arrive at a much later date, which is why Microsoft is counting on the value of the tech advancements that going for the third version gives the third iteration of the HoloLens V3 headset.

However, this will also entail a much longer wait. Sources that spoke to Sams suggest that there is still two years to go before the Microsoft HoloLens V3 headset hits the tech world. The sources point out that the device will likely be no-show this year and the next.
