Microsoft Lumia 550 Launched with Windows 10 Mobile, Priced at $139 Only
Those who are planning to purchase a budget-friendly Windows 10 Mobile smartphone might want to turn their attention to Microsoft's Lumia 550. According to a report by Geek, the Redmond, Washington-based software giant has already launched the device in the U.S. and in Europe. Other regions around the world will follow in the coming weeks.
Those who are interested of picking up the Lumia 550 can get it for a price of only $139 (unlocked). It will be available in a variety of colors for its detachable polycarbonate back cover, which is a staple of the lower end Lumia models.
Considering the price, it's expected that the device will not have the same level as Microsoft's flagship devices, Lumia 950XL or 950. The Lumia 550 is not for the power users. It is mainly created for the budget-conscious consumers who just want to own a handset that can provide great functionality for its value.
It is also the tech giant's most affordable 4G LTE phone running Windows 10 mobile. As for its specs, Ubergizmo detailed that the device sports a 4.7-inch HD display with 1,280 x 720 resolution and a total pixel density of 315 PPI. It is equipped with a 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM. It will be pre-installed with 8 GB of memory storage which can be further expanded up to 200 GB via microSD card storage.
It comes with a decent 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. What is missing though is the USB Type-C connector that Microsoft's Desktop Dock requires and support for Windows 10's Continuum feature.
However, the handset will still arrive with Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), OneDrive cloud storage, Outlook Mail and Calendar and the Cortana digital assistant, as noted in Eweek. Customers can choose between the two color options of the backing which are glossy-white and matte-black.
