Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL News: Get a Free Display Dock with Every Purchase of Lumia Smartphones
Access the Continuum Feature of the Windows 10 Phones with the Bundled Display Dock
Microsoft is once again bundling their sales of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL with the Display Dock.
What's the Deal?
The Display Dock deal is officially back, as Microsoft yet again offers the hardware with every purchase of either a Lumia 950 or a Lumia 950 XL. Consumers will receive the Display Dock for free, which is officially valued at $99 when purchased from the Microsoft Store.
This offer has been offered on and off throughout the year. The renewed offering gives potential buyers the chance to grab the freebie anew while supplies last until March 2, 2017. The starting prices for both smartphones, including the Display Dock, remains unchanged. The Lumia 950 starts at $399 and the Lumia 950 XL starts at $499.
Display Dock and Continuum
The Continuum features of Windows 10 phones require Microsoft's Display Dock as a separate external hardware component. This feature allows the Lumia smartphones to run a full desktop version of Windows 10.
Any apps available from the Windows Store are then scaled up to be optimized for a larger display. This is especially useful when using Microsoft Office apps, which when paired with a full desktop setup, would create an optimized working environment for increased productivity.
The Windows 10 Lumia phones will connect to the dock via a USB Type-C port. The display dock also includes an additional of three USB 2.0 ports, for the connection of a mouse, a keyboard, an extra peripheral. The display adapter can then be connected to a monitor, either through a Display Port or and HDMI connector. It supports resolutions of up to 1080p.
