Microsoft Surface Book 2 News: On the Design, Specs, and Competition
The advent of modern day technology has ushered a new way in which people could tend to their daily needs on the go. More consumers are clamoring for devices that offer a lot of features that cater to their specific needs. In a move to respond to this demand, Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Book 2, which has a specific quirk that will make it perfect for business or leisure: it doubles as a laptop and as a tablet.
"The hinges are completely redesigned; it's all from the learnings of the first one, because you want more stability," Microsoft's Panos Panay, the creator of the Surface line and its VP of devices, said in an interview with Engadget. "We redesigned the connection mechanism, we went to ceramics, we lightened the whole product... To get to that next level of performance we needed -- it's three times more powerful -- we put in a quad-core Intel eighth-generation CPU. Now you're in a totally different class of computing from gen 1 to gen 2."
According to The Verge, it is yet to be seen if the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will measure up as a worthy competitor for Apple's MacBook Pro. Considering that it may be hard for users to change software and computing platforms, the Surface Book 2 will have to offer something more than its specs. It will have to mean something to the market, just as Apple's product is one that epitomizes wealth and power.
Regardless, the Surface Book 2 is powerful in its own right. Furthermore, it can turn into a tablet with a simple button that users can press to take off the screen. Moreover, the laptop is made of ceramics, which makes it fare better in the face of high temperatures, which is a feature that might be a pro for video editors or gamers. It will also be offered in a 15-inch variant, which places the Surface Book 2 in direct competition with Apple's MacBook.
The Surface Book 2 will begin to accept pre-orders on Nov. 9, and shipping will start on Nov. 16.
