Microsoft Surface Phone Specs, Release Date: New Leaks Suggest Device in the Works, to Feature Dual Screens

The ever-elusive Microsoft Surface Phone has found itself at the center of a number of leaks over the past few days, giving fans of the Windows Mobile renewed hope about a possible comeback.

Ardent Microsoft watcher Walking Cat is not one to be stopped by the death of the Windows Phone, scouring anything and everything that could provide a clue about its resurrection.

This leads him to a Microsoft Store page, where he finds references to the "Apps hub for 8828080" in the source code. 8828080 is part of Microsoft's phone number.

He pointed out that the app collection for the page he dissected is designed for smartphones, which gives him the impression that whatever it is at work here, it involves a mobile device.

This discovery has many believing that Microsoft is not done with mobile hardware just yet, making the long-awaited Microsoft Surface Phone not so mythical after all.

Apart from this discovery, a new patent also recently came to light. Picked up by Win Central, the document once again hints at a dual screen design for the device, which is reportedly envisioned to work like a portable laptop.

Microsoft patented a "hinged design" that will bring the two displays together in the Surface Phone, which is expected to be where it will be used.

The patent document makes mention of six different types of hinges, which suggests that the Redmond giant has been testing which one will work best.

The Microsoft Surface Phone could also end up making use of organic light-emitting diode (OLED: displays, which were mentioned in the patent. Apple iPhones are known for their OLED screens, but the Windows maker hopes to slot in not one but two of these components in a single smartphone.

These leaks came shortly after another Microsoft patent explaining the camera mechanism on a foldable smartphone found its way online.

At the moment, however, the Microsoft Surface Phone's existence is yet to be confirmed, but these reports indicate that it could very well be in the works.
