Microsoft Surface Pro 5 vs. Dell XPS 15 (2017) Specs and Features Review
Microsoft has yet to release the Surface Pro 5, but it is already being compared to quite a few laptops that are out in the market. One of these is the Dell XPS 15, which was made available in January.
Dell's offering sports a 15.6-inch display with a 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution. It runs on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700 HQ CPU and a 64-bit Microsoft Windows 10 Home operating system. In terms of memory, the laptop features 16 GB of DDR4 SDRAM and 512 GB of SSD storage. It packs an impressive 4 GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, and has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Dell XPS 15 is offered in 7th generation i3, i5 and i7 models. Prices start at $999.
In its review of the Dell XPS 15, CNET points out that the laptop is far better than the MacBook Pro 2016 in almost every aspect. Dell's offering exceeds expectations when it comes to gaming, but it is also for the art-inclined, as utilizing it for photo and graphics work is also better than Apple's product.
However, it is important to note that the Dell XPS 15 is heavier than the MacBook Pro 2016, but not by a lot. It is understandably bigger and carries more weight because of its battery, which offers a far superior lifespan than that of the MacBook Pro's.
Meanwhile, Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 is more of a hybrid laptop, which is entirely different to Dell's offering. But basic functionality is not their only difference. The Surface Pro 5 is expected to run on Intel's latest Kaby Lake processor and the Windows 10 Redstone 3 operating system. It is also believed to come with an improved version of the Surface Pen, which will be rechargeable this time around. 4K resolution support is likewise expected.
Microsoft has yet to reveal the Surface Pro 5, though, and it does not have a release date as of this time. However, there has been talk of a spring release in store for the hybrid device.
