Miesha Tate News: UFC President Dana White says it 'would be a good idea' for Tate to retire
UFC president Dana White does not mind if former title challenger Miesha Tate opted to pursue her retirement plans.
In October, a frustrated "Cupcake" aired out her sentiments after being passed over for a third shot at then bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. After beating Jessica Eye at UFC on FOX in July, Tate was promised the Rousey fight by none other than White himself.
However, UFC management decided to go for another route and pit former boxing world champion Holly Holm against Rousey, instead. Naturally, the said business decision drew the ire of Tate, who suddenly brought up the idea of retiring from the sport soon.
"It's a very fine line," Tate told Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com. "All I can say is I don't want it to go in that direction, but anything is a possibility. If it's clear there's no way for me to get a title shot as long as Ronda has the belt, then I don't know."
"I suppose I have to look at my options. And that's not saying I will retire, but it's something I'd have to think about." "When push comes to shove, I will stand my ground," she added.
"I'm a company woman. I went to Japan and fought on Fight Pass for relatively low exposure. I fought Sara McMann when nobody wanted to fight her."
"I make myself as available as possible. But there comes a point when I cannot sacrifice what I believe in my heart to be right."
In another report by MMA Fighting, it took a while for White to respond, but he finally did during this past weekend's UFC 193 festivities.
"Miesha Tate is talking about retiring right now. In this sport, when you start thinking about retiring, you should retire," White said. "Miesha probably should retire if that's what Miesha is thinking right now. It's probably a good idea."
Since losing to her rematch to Rousey in 2013, the 29-year old had been on a victory streak, winning all of her last four fights.
