Migrant Crisis News: 100+ Migrants Move Through Eurotunnel

A large group of migrants have reportedly tried to get into the Channel Tunnel, breaking through the fenced borders on Saturday.

Due to the "massive invasion" from more than 100 migrants, Eurotunnel services have been suspended, as reported by The Mirror U.K. According to the authorities, a "large and coordinated" group of supposed refugees stormed through the tunnel at around 12:30 a.m.

"It's a massive invasion and intrusion by a very large and coordinated group of migrants," a spokesman said.

The immigrants, who have been suppressed by police, were said to have organized their intrusion in a well-planned manner before they broke through the French train terminal, resulting to the suspension of activities. Trains have been kept away from the tunnel and expectant passengers were instead directed to ferry boats for their travels.

The spokesman added that one of the possible reasons why the migrants infiltrated the area in large numbers is because Eurotunnel has implemented better security measures, including the construction of new fences, plus the installation of new security appliances and adding more staff to oversee the activities going on in the passageway every day. The newly implemented changes have then made it harder for asylum seekers to enter in small numbers.

Meanwhile, a recent report suggested that the growing crisis in Germany, as it struggles to handle the influx of migrants, could probably get the attention of more extremist groups trying to take advantage of the situation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Germany is the main target of many refugees, particularly Muslims running away from war and violence and Syria and the Balkan areas.

While Chancellor Angela Merkel and her government have welcomed the arrival of many asylum seekers, a larger number of the German community are still having an extremely difficult time embracing the crisis that most of European Union states have recently been plagued with.
