Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez Fight News 2015: WBC president believes fight will be 'down the line barn burner'

World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman has high expectations for the upcoming Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez fight.

Slated to happen on November 21st, Cotto will be defending his WBC, lineal and Ring Magazine middleweight titles, in what is deemed as boxing's "Mexico vs. Pueto Rico" super fight. In a report by Ronnie Nathanielsz for Boxingscene.com, Sulaiman summed up the fight in one statement: "It will be a right down the line barn burner!"

Having been fighting professionally since 2001, Miguel Cotto (40-4, with 33 womns by knockout) began his career as a pressure fighter. He did fight success with the said fighting style, winning six of his first eight fights by knockout. All of which happened within the second round.

Through the years, however, he adapted a more boxer-puncher style, particularly when he began training under renowned boxing coach Freddie Roach in October 2013. Since then, he has been 3-0, and has won the middleweight titles in the process by defeating Argentine sensation Sergio Martinez in June 2014.

Alvarez, on the other hand, has established himself as a knockout artist in the light middleweight division. Holding a record of 45-1-1 (with 32 wins by knockout), "Canelo" went on a streak of stoppage victories early in his career, from 2006-2007.

His lone loss was against undefeated retired welterweight great Floyd Mayweather Jr., whom he fought to a unanimous decision verdict in 2013.

While many believe that both fighters possess a style that would make for a great fight, age is one factor that is also being looked at. Cotto is a decade older than the 25-year old Alvarez, but for Sulaiman, it will not be a factor in the fight.

"I don't think so, as both fighters always get prepared really well, meticulously building up to their fights," Sulaiman said. "I consider this as one of the biggest fights of the last few years."

The event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
