Mike Williams Back in the NFL After Agreeing to Deal with Chiefs
After the NFL suspended him three games last season, Mike Williams decided to sit out the entire year. While the consensus thought was that he no longer will have the opportunity to play once again, he proved that to be wrong after ending his brief hiatus and signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to NFL.com, the wide receiver actually visited the New England Patriots and the Cincinnati Bengals before deciding to give it a go with the Chiefs.
The former Syracuse star was suspended for undisclosed reasons by the league last season and ended up as a free agent the entire year when the Buffalo Bills released him after the 2014 season. The last time he played for big money was back in 2013, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him a six-year contract worth $40.25 million. It was actually a contract extension he rightfully deserved after an incredible performance in his first three years with the team. However, that contract wasn't consummated when the Bucs decided to use him as trade bait to get the sixth-round pick in the draft from the Bills.

With the Chiefs, the 28-year old has the best and probably the last chance he has to redeem himself and finally carve out his own niche. He started well as a pro, only to see his performance and worth decline as quickly as his short-lived success was. The injuries, off-field issues, and the suspension by the league also didn't help his cause in the last couple of years.
For Kansas City, giving him a one-year deal is a masterful move. This is nothing but an experiment for the team, but one that can have very rewarding consequences later on. Obviously, this team is still owned by Jeremy Maclin, but Williams' addition will give them another dimension and option at the receiver position.
