Miley Cyrus in Rolling Stone: Singer Calls America 'Weird,' Reveals Friendship with Kanye West

Miley Cyrus opens up about her VMA performance and the reactions she received in the weeks following in the newest issue of Rolling Stone, on which Cyrus poses on the cover.

In the interview Cyrus explains that she was surprised at the reaction she endured after the VMAs after she revealed that she gave a toned down act because it was on MTV.

"Honestly, that was our MTV version... I didn't expect it to become such a controversy. I thought that's what the VMAs were all about! It's not the Grammys or the Oscars. You're not supposed to show up in a gown, Vanna White-style. It's supposed to be fun!"

But it seemed that the former Hanna Montana star is more flustered with what she perceives as hypocrisy from society at large in what they define as right or wrong or even morally acceptable.

"America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong. Like, I was watching "Breaking Bad" the other day, and they were cooking meth. It's a how-to. And then they bleeped out the word 'f**k.' They killed a guy, and disintegrated his body in acid, but you're not allowed to say 'f**k'?"

Cyrus perhaps revealed the most shocking detail that she and Kaye West are friends after he gave her a pep talk before the awards show.

"He came in and goes, 'There are not a lot of artists I believe in more than you right now.' The whole room went quiet. I was like, 'Yo – can you say that again?!'

The two seem to have developed friendship based on common artistry which she says is a benefit to her, given West's creative prowess.

"I kind of have a good relationship with him now. It's good to have someone you can call."
