Milwaukee Bucks Roster, Injury News 2017: Center Greg Monroe Expected to Miss Two Weeks with a Calf Injury
The Milwaukee Bucks will have to get by without one of their top bench scorers for a couple of weeks.
According to Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, backup center Greg Monroe is expected to miss at least the two weeks due to a left calf injury.
The eight-year pro has had issues with his calf since the preseason, but he hasn't missed a game this season before Sunday's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
"He's had a calf problem and I think he might have just hurt it again in that Boston game," Bucks coach Jason Kidd said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We're going to need (Henson) to step up, him and Thon and D.J. (Wilson) and Giannis (Antetokounmpo) will all see some action at the five," he added.
Well, John Henson did what was asked of him and he got the bulk of the minutes at center in the Bucks 117–106 victory over the Hawks.
"Mentally I was prepared, I knew I would play. That's a big thing for me when I can go to sleep knowing how to prepare myself. That's all it was, man, I wanted to come out here with energy and help us win," Henson said after the game on Sunday.
Henson finished the game with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 28 minutes. It was his most productive game thus far this season.
Thon Maker will continue to start for the Bucks. However, he rarely plays more than 20 minutes per game for the Bucks, so Henson should see a significant increase in minutes while Monroe is on the shelf. The sixth-year pro is not a low post scoring threat like Monroe, but he's a very capable defensive center.
Rookie D.J. Wilson will likely see some minutes at the center position as well in a small-ball lineup.
