'Minecraft: Pocket Edition' News, Sales Details: Tops Apple Store on Christmas 2014
"Minecraft: Pocket Edition" earned the highest sales for iOs games on Christmas Day.
Market data application "App Annie" revealed that "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" made more money than "Clash of Clans," "Game War" or "Candy Crush Saga."
On Christmas day, a lot of people received Apple gadgets as a gift and chose to download the sandbox construction game. "Minecraft" only costs $7 in the Apple store and is one of the most popular games for children and teenagers nowadays.
In September, Microsoft r bought "Minecraft" from its creator, Markus "Notch" Persson for $2.5 billion. This month, Persson purchased a $70 million house in Beverly Hills. The mansion was recreated in "Minecraft" and published on YouTube.
The mansion has $5,600 toilets and an 18-seat screening room. The dining room table can accommodate 24 people and has a setting by Robert Cavalli priced at $3,700 each. The living room has 10 chairs designed by Bentley Motors for $56,000 per piece. Persson reportedly outbid Beyonce and Jay Z for the said mansion.
There is no doubt that Persson is highly successful since "Minecraft" sold 50 million copies on consoles, PC and smartphones since 2011. When the game was released it was initially promoted by a dedicated community who publicized it through videos and blogs."
"Minecraft" is a game where players need to dig for resources in a world of blocks before they can build anything. The player must avoid zombies and giant spiders while they dig up. "Minecraft" has been described as the Lego for video games. In 2012, Lego's creative community, Cuusoo created small sets based on the game.
Lego approved the ideas and produced collector's items, "Minecraft" themed micro-sets. It turned out to be a popular product and this year a full-size set has been released by the company.
The game's popularity is not going away soon. Aside from iOs, "Minecraft" is available for Android, Playstation and Xbox.
