Minnesota Vikings NFL Trade Rumors: It's Official, Adrian Peterson Isn't Returning

It's time for the Minnesota faithful to say goodbye to Adrian Peterson because he's not coming back in a Vikings uniform next season. When the team announced the signing of Latavius Murray early Thursday morning, fans already had an inkling that Peterson wasn't coming back. But now it's official.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman has confirmed that they aren't re-signing Peterson on the team's official Twitter account and he also spoke at length about the Vikings' all-time leading rusher during a conference call with reporters on Thursday.

"I've talked to Adrian. We had a great conversation earlier today, and I know with us signing Murray that Adrian will move on elsewhere," Spielman said during the conference call (via the team's official website).

"Adrian is probably going to go down as one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings in team history. He will always be a Viking, I know to our fans and to the people in this building, and he will always have a special place in this franchise. We are very fortunate that we were able to have predominantly most of Adrian Peterson's career as a Minnesota Viking," he continued.

Many people already knew that this was going to happen. Observers have noted that Peterson wanted the Vikings to pay him a lot of money if they want to bring him back, but that wasn't happening. His father, Nelson, also insulted the team's offensive line last week in an interview with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and that probably wasn't the smartest thing to do if he wanted his son to re-sign with the Vikings.

Sure, Peterson would have to mend a lot of fences, but he could still return at the time. However, his fate was sealed when Murray came on board. Now the Adrian Peterson era has officially come to an end.

It's sad to see him leave, but wherever he ends up playing next season, Peterson will always be a Viking.
