Minnesota Vikings to Add More Receivers

Minnesota Vikings fans got some good news on Tuesday when it was announced that Adam Thielen was staying put. The team might have managed to bring Thielen back in the fold, but it's quite clear that they still need an upgrade at the wide receiver position.

In an interview with KFXN-FM, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer acknowledged that they need help at the position and he said they were going to continue to look for receivers this offseason.

"I do think we need some more receivers, yes. I think it would be important for us to get some guys to stretch the field a little bit. That's not saying I don't feel good about the guys we have. But we lost a couple in free agency, and we're going to have to add one or two, maybe," Zimmer said during the interview.

Cordarrelle Patterson caught 52 passes last season, but he's no longer with the Vikings and the others will have to step up in his absence. Charles Johnson (20 receptions last season) also left and signed with the Carolina Panthers this offseason.

According to ESPN's Ben Goessling, Thielen, Stefon Diggs and Jarius Wright are the only receivers currently on the roster who have caught more than 10 passes last season. The Vikings still have high hopes for last season's first round pick Laquon Treadwell, though, and he should play more this year. He only caught a single pass last season in limited playing time.

Thielen will start alongside Stefon Diggs next season and Wright should have an increased role. Goessling also noted that Isaac Fruechte may compete for minutes at wide receiver next season thanks to his solid play in training camp last year.

Meanwhile, new wide receivers coach, Darrell Hazell, can also help the team select a receiver in the draft since he used to be a college coach.
