Minnesota Vikings NFL Trade Rumors: Vikings Bring Back Terence Newman

The ageless cornerback is back and he wants a shot at winning the Super Bowl.

The Minnesota Vikings have announced that Terence Newman has agreed to re-sign with the team for at least one more season. The announcement came a day after Newman teased fans that he's going to sign with a team that has a legitimate chance of winning the title.

On Tuesday, Newman told Sirius XM NFL Radio he wasn't ready to retire and he explained that the only reason he's going to continue playing was for a shot at the title. He wants that championship ring and he believes the team he's signing with could give him what he wants.

"The only reason I'm playing the game right now is because I want a ring," Newman said during the interview. "I wouldn't do it if I didn't think I could win a ring. I wouldn't try to play this game and go to a team that is 'rebuilding' or what have you. But the fact that I have an opportunity with a team that I know has a shot at winning a ring, that's the part that, to me, is important," he continued.

Newman did not mention the team he's joining during the interview, but it's now clear that he was talking about the Vikings.

Newman will turn 39 in September, but he has proven time and again that he can be a solid contributor in spite of his age. During his two seasons with the Vikings, Newman started in 26 of the 31 games he has appeared in, but observers believe that he will have a decreased role this year since Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes are expected to start. Of course, he's also an option at nickel cornerback.

Newman probably won't mind if his role is limited this season because he only has one thing on his mind: a championship ring.
