Mirror's Edge Catalyst Release News: Called A 'Reboot,' New Trailer Video Released
During the Gamescom 2015, developer DICE confirmed that action-adventure platform game "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" has been created as a complete reboot of the "Mirror's Edge" that was originally released in 2007. It was noted that the game didn't sell particularly well so it was a surprise when EA first revealed that it was allowing DICE to have a go at it once again.
When "Catalyst" was announced, it was speculated to be a prequel most likely since the plot of the game needs to fit into the timeline. But Design Director Erik Oeldahl told IGN:
"Mirror's Edge: Catalyst is a reboot. We basically took the things we really liked about the first game. Faith, first and foremost, the first-person free-running gameplay, and also the aesthetics, which we've built on, of course. But it's a reboot."
A new trailer for the reboot has already been released, according to Game Ranx. In the trailer, the game follows Faith, a daring free runner fighting for freedom in the city of Glass. She tries to break into a building owned by a company called Elysium to steal some information. The trailer also showed little details of the gameplay, Faith's perspective as she jumps, runs and more.
Players of the game can explore every corner of the city—from the highest rooftops to the dark and grainy tunnels below. According to Engadget, "Catalyst" will show a larger and more meaningful storyline that moves through the missions, as well as CG cut scenes and expanded dialogue while the player is running around as Faith.
The game will remain to be a first-person perspective but DICE has made a lot of changes. One of it include the removal of gun combat from the game, which was revealed during E3 2015. The game will also center in the city wherein the players can move and roam around it smoothly, and the more they play, the more they will be able to unlock more areas.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be released in February 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
